TFA TOUR HEADS TO LONDON!

Fresh off massively successful tours of Benin, Abuja, and Enugu, The Future Awards 2009 hit in quick succession the cities of Kaduna and Calabar with its ground-breaking idea of town hall meetings.

The Kaduna town hall meeting held in the final week of October at the NAF Club, Kaduna, with more than a hundred young people from the state of Kaduna as well as neighboring northern states in attendance, including Jos, Zamfara, Abuja and Kogi.

As has been the experience since the town hall meetings began, examples were given of role models for talent, hard work, persistence and achievement that these young people could relate to: specifically, names like Tara Fela-Durotoye (Young Person of the Year 2007), Ali Nuhu (Actor of the Year 2008), Jeremiah Gyang and Psquare, came up.

The Calabar Town Hall meeting was at the beautiful Seafood Hall of the Marina Resort; overlooking a breath-taking view of the sea - held in conjunction with Adstrat Communications, which just opened its Tornado’s Place II Calabar office. The event held on Saturday, the 1st of November.

The massively successful nation tour that began after the launch event on the 30th of September now has just one final stop - in the south-west zone of the country. But just before that, it will be all about The Future Awards this weekend in the UK, as the organizers undergo a blitz of small events for different targets in different locations, especially in London.
Have a great week ahead.

This is a sincere question... What is the point of the Future award tour?

The point is

1. To reach more people with the message; ensure they can ask questions and then spread the word.

2. To generate a conversation aboout Nigeria amongst young people and Nigerians all over

3. To get more nominations so as to ensure the nominations, entries are winners are noit just Lagos-based like most Nigerian awards.

Cool?

I agree with mystique, pls whats the point? It just seems like a reinvention of the wheel, what impact will the new location of London have?
instead of giving awards, arent they better of starting a scholarship, or using the money towards developing something substantial.

I see the purposes are outlined below
1. To celebrate youth and honour achievement
2. Correct present destructive stereotypes of the Nigerian young person
3. National Integration
4.To present authentic role models

Its almost like the wheel is being reinvented, yet another award, after it is given, then what? How does that help the primary schl student in the village who hopes to have money to bu provisions for sec schl, or the one who got university admissions but cant afford fees. How about the one who cant afford an inhaler and has chronic asthma, or even the one who hasnt eaten in past 3 days because mama hasnt been able to make any sales at the market?

I've followed TFA since it started, and frankly think its just too much hoopla.
I say this because I know how much I personally have invested in projects such as maternity clinics, yet when you approach such organisations for contributions,m they look the other way. And I am not talking about the occasional weekend motherless baby home visits that some might claim to do. Take for exam the funds spent on even the so-called "exclusive party" last yr for award nominees or is it recipients, completely pointless.

@Ada,

Your post drips with self-righteouness as well as a lack of information. If only people could just be informed... before they speak.

As someone else who has 'followed' tyhe award from start - i see that you have arrogantly 1) mis-characterised the London tour as it is not an event but a tour of Nigerian locations in London to spread the word about the event

2) Mis-characterised what you call the 'exclusive' party because of course it was neither exclusive nor just a party.

But alas anyone on facedbook can look at a laudable initiative and just ridicule it with a careless comment.

Best

@ Alex and DSCR?...I'm sorry guys, I seriously was not about to start anything. It was a sincere question and wanted clarification.

@ Ada... Keep doing what you're doing, God will always find ways to help in your projects.
