looks garish! i think we should focus more on development. God knows how much the government has sunk into this "carnival thingy". nigeria - the clueless nation without priorities.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
I sat in traffic for HOURS on end.
IT WAS NOT EVEN FUNNY!!!!!

only 1 lane in V/I for entry and exit

Very VERY POOR Planning.

Hideous costumes too.....I saw women with bellies wearing "half-top".

on the bright side, it's a source of income and livelihood for some people, government might generate some revenue and because young people who participate in the carnival will be occupied, you have less crime rate. its also a good location for tourists

When I heard of the carnival through a friend, my first thought was since when did Lagos host carnivals? But my thought process went to that of Oluwaseun's, maybe they are looking new ways of bringing in some revenue. I sm not sure how well that will work though.

Ok this "lagos carnival" has been goin on for years. Years before I waz even born and I'm 24. I'm am a logosian. Its called fanti carnival and is held 3times a year. Christmas, easter and new years day. Its usually done in the area I'm from which is lagos island (gbambose to be precise) fashola just took it and blew it up. Where I'm from in lagos is called the brasilian quarters. That's where u find the lagosians with protugese surnames. We have a brasilian connection from our fore fathers. Its sposd to be modelled after brasilian carnivals. Hence the brasilian looking costumes. Ther used to be two groups doing the carnival. Ppl from lafiaji and ppl from campus. Lafiagi would wear red and white, campus would wear green and yellow and we'll dance with the carnival all around our area. Its not something new, its part of our tradition. Its fun. If this happened in some ppls villages now, itd be ok but cuz its happening in lagos, ppl have a problem with it. We lagosians have tried to preserve our culture and traditions admist all the mordernisation coming to us. When we hold eyo festival, ppl have a problem with it too. Please remember that we were a settlement too before we became a "mega city". We try, pls don't criticise us.

The obviously Brazilian descent Lagosian anonymous is right. Am not a logosian but luv d Fanti/Careta Carnival (which d lag Carnival obviously is) and the rich culture it depicts. As for the Brazilian looking costumes, its because its an adaptation of the of the Brazilian Fancy Carnival as the originators in Campos/Lafiaji wanted it 2 be, the Wole Soyinka mascot shows we are making it Nigerian. Check out the Fela Kuti's song ''Onidodo, oni moin moin'' its a Fanti song!
