I can't date someone who does not have money" blunt actress Uche Iwuji confesses

"I broke up with him because he could not take care of my needs and I cannot see myself suffering or spending for a guy. If you want to marry me, I think you should be able to take good care of me. You don't need to give me everything, you don't need to give me the world. I Just want little, like take this money, go and do your hair. Take this money, travel, take a flight and all that. You need to show some concern, show me that you are a man. Let me see and feel the man in the house. You don't have to tell me you are a man, you have to show it. So why do I have to keep suffering over a man who cannot take care of my needs? My ex is loving but he's not somebody that can take care of my needs and that's why I broke up with him." Actress Uche Iwuji tells Encomium mag when asked why she broke up with her ex

Did she say - "take this money, go and do your hair"? I'm hoping she was misquoted.
That's seriously not something young girls who look up actresses as role models should read

OMG! Is she serious? Most of this naija celebs need proper interview training. They just seem to ramble on and on and on whenever they r asked a question. Shut up for 2 mins. You're a celeb for goodness sakes! u r meant to be discreet & not jst out there like some pepper seller.

Man Uche u let me down oo. I know u were being honest and all but really, u just sounded like a cheap ass gold digger. Money for ur hair? Is it? Nollywood that broke now? Seeeenn

We all love d good things in life but I don't need u telling encomium that u broke up with a man cos he didn't hv money. Is you craaazy?? I mean u coulda phrased it better.

Either these mags r good at making shit up on d daily or these so called celebrities need to be trained on proper etiquette.
But then again, it's naija! I usually don't expect much. I just thought Uche was more sensible.

wow that is so shallow! good luck to her and the man that will give her hand outs. i think she's in the wrong profession though.

On reading that headline, I felt Uche Iwuji was shallow. I won't judge her, though. Perhaps she has her reasons.

I agree with Dith that, being a role model, she should have been careful about her public revelations.

Either way, she knows what she wants. God help her get it.

I honestly don't understand what everybody is going on about! This is what most people are after, not me personally bc I actually turned down a millonaire to marry my younger husband who I know has potential to make it. Money is not everything but at the same time, who wants to end up with a pauper? I guess she should have been more tactful but some of these people aren't that educated or exposed. The truth is that a lot of people do what she just did n I won't blame her for wanting better for herself. Even guys these days go for working women or women from rich families. Abeg people, make we keep it real!!!

A lil deviation here, but come to think of it, why do pple easily throw d word "ROLE MODEL" around anyhow??

Just because someone is in d limelight does NOT automatically make them a role model.
I mean what d heck does any1 know of Uche Iwuji enough 2 tag her as a role model? Well to each his own sha.
Just that TO ME! That word is such a powerful word & i feel like pple misuse it and d word "love" a lot these days.

i always knew uche was dumb. not only in school, but even in her everyday life. but on the bright side...i think most girls like rich men, or at least someone with prospects but uche wants to be another carol ekanem. marry a man who lives in a rich house and can be the same age with their fathers. before u know it, the man will change his mind after he sees another young girl. this uche girl hmmn i've heard a lot. u can even see her nude pictures if u google her name...i'm sure that's how she will get the rich guy abi? and uche is not a role model....she USED (i refuse to believe she still acts even though she does) to be an actress, and can't act to save her life. good luck to her, she'll prob be the new rita dominic only maybe she'll add more weight. and a woman who seeks money and expensive gifts from men (where she hasn't sown) is a gold digger that's the definition, and it's sad that most girls (it's even worse in the so called developed countries) do that.

truth be told, if u ask a man for money all the time, except he really really loves u (he'll know u ahve nothing) that's why rich kids rarely ask for money cuz they have all they want. my advise to uche is, she should not ask men for money, that's prob why her relationships don't want. men want an independent women yes, but they are scared when u r too successful. so if uche can become independent....and stop following old rich men....maybe she'll find the right one...who knows but i pity the man seeing her body all over the internet

She's obviously in the limelight for wrong reasons, shes the worst so slow actress naija has ever produced. She needs to wait till the right mugu comes and pick her off like caroline danjuma, meanwhile even mugu won't come if you keep running your mouth loosely like this.

If she were a rich babe and met a broke ass guy, he would want her to take care of his needs too. And if she can't; he will find his way out of the relationship. Uche hasn't really said anything bad. May be becos she did not use big grammar in the interview, and she comes off as a golddigger. May be if she had used some kind of heavy grammar which is not Nigerian english, then she won't be crucified. Just food for thought*

role model and heroes are two of the most abused and overused words in the media today.
Uche Iwuji, role model???
WTH!!!

House, I won't lie to u guys, but these naija celebs make me sick... they really make me sick. and Linda, how can u called this lady a role model? Aba! They make horrible movies; poor story lines, no suspense... they are not adding anything to the society, they are not giving anything back to the society...They should study what their counterparts are doing abroad. Look at Angelina Jolie, Madona, a whole lot of them! But cdome to Nigeria, the story is different evn with our cultural background. They are always saying nonsense on the pages of newspaper. They don't know how to grant interviews! They don't even practise what they preach!Watch an Indian film and u will definately c something or at least a line that will touch your haert or that you will hold on too... To think that a company is paying them millions for nothing... not even 10% of the millions been given to them will go back to the community, some of them will not even buy 100 exercise books for students in their local goverment!P-Square will soon buy a new jeep (pls, no jealousy here) but these guys need to sit up... nothings go foever u know. Wrinkles will soon satrt showing but they can go under the knief saa. For Uche, remember say Tara Durotoye married Fela Durotoye when he was still staying in a one-room apartment!

WHO IS SHE?

What a sad article- surely you don't need a man to give you money to do your hair or to take care of your other needs! To me, asking a man (except if he is your husband) for money all the time is no different from prostitution! Uche, go out here and get a proper job!

this babe is funny. if you're going to marry for money, might as well think big and go all the way. aim for diamonds not a new hairstyle at yaba.

Does this girl have someone to advice her on how to answer questions during an interview??? We know some of this so called nollywood people are not that exposed but i think she should at least put out a better impression of herself, as for now she getting a Big Minus ( - ).

Nollywood as a movie industry is not trying in terms the quality of thgeir movies abeg, i can't see myself watching a nollywood movie cuz they are all a bunch of CRAP!!! they need better scripts and producers and please they should stop spending small money on movies, they should bring out something reasonable to make a movie and not the crap they are bringing out.

As for u Uche, i haven't seen you in a movie cuz i don't like naija movies but you have just given me a impression that's not different from what a natural Gold digger would give.

Make una leave the babe she talk wetin dey her mind abi?
Naija babes una never cease to amaze me, i mean how low can she be to need a man to make her hair or buy her a flight ticket to travel na wah ohh.
I wonder what she intends to do if she wants to buy diamonds and a house in lekki or outside naija.

i dont know why y'all r giving urselves headache.....the girl talk her mind. Abi who wan suffer. but like one of u said she shouldnt be blunt like dat in an interview dat will be published nationally. Then again some people dont really care about marriage.

Anonymous said...

well, i would say uche has a point there, some guys aint worth it afterall! and pls dont judge her, everyone is entitled to their opinion. guys are also gold diggers!

What more do I have to say? much of the thing has been said. She's nothing but a cheap bitch with shallow thinking, someone who cannot see beyond her loins. The so called celebs need to undergo training on how to answer interview questions- not every question asked they must answer..... I read in one mag. also where Opeyemi Aiyeola said her regrets in life was that it wasn't the husband that deflowered her not minding the feelings of the husband imagine!

Ms. Linda, you didn't print my comment because.................??? I know sey one answer na because na your blog but wetin I tok dere wey be bad pass wetin everybody don tok here finish?

I appreciate her honesty. If I were a guy, I'd appreciate this level of honesty from any woman, because at least you know what the koko is.

But what she's saying is what most women worldwide want to believe, they want men who are providers not to be providing for their men. In theory there's nothing wrong with that, but her delivery and reality is what's wrong.

role model? yeah...right! this THING a role model. any teenager or young lady that looks up to this girl as a role model should be taken to a psychiatrist for psychoanalysis.

now we've cleared that, i would have to say i respect her honesty even though i don't agree with her. she is entitled to her opinions after all she's an OUT OF JOB actress who probably has to use whatever is left of her fame to get some MUGU to satisfy her needs.

by the way, why should hair be expensive? if we as African women knew how to care for our hair, i don't think we need to spend much;if we did then... maybe just for relaxer or colour touch-ups or occasional weaves or a party hair dress. not fixing or braiding hair like your life dependent on it and if you don't you'd be ugly.

Whats the problem here? The girl speaks the truth...deep down, this is what we all want on varying levels. It may not be money to go "do your hair" but the extra sure does help, so if you can find a man (or a woman)to "assisst" in your financial endeavors (of any sort) more power to ya xx
