Government to fight Boko Haram, others with N10b gadgets

With the installation of a N10 billion equipment nearing completion, the Federal Government is stepping up its anti-terrorism battle, it was learnt yesterday.

The project, which is coming under the National Public Security Communication System, according to sources, is to be completed before the end of this month.

It is fashioned along the line of the Global System of Telecommunications (GSM).
The equipment will serve the Armed Forces, the State Security Services (SSS), the Police, the office of the NSA and other arms of the security services.

The installed line capacity, for instance, exceeds that of MTN and Globacom combined, it was said. When fully deployed, the equipment has an excess capacity of over one million lines.

The office of the NSA is expected to co-ordinate the operations of the equipment, which is like a radar that can detect threats to security.

Besides, the Federal Government is said to have begun talks with neighbouring countries on a mutual agreement on security challenges in the border towns and cities.

Also, as part of the renewed efforts in tackling the security situation in the country, a 24-hour surveillance around all hotels that have over 50 rooms capacity has been ordered. Besides, all public buildings and private recreational centres are to be manned by plain clothes security operatives.

The measures, which emanated from the National Security Adviser, Gen Andrew Azazi, might not be unconnected with security alert issued by the United States government to its citizens to stay off some prominent hotels in Abuja.

Gen. Azazi, on the directive of President Goodluck Jonathan, has ordered Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) of government to volunteer capable personnel to be trained by his office on counter terrorism and emergency response strategies.

A source in the Presidency, who spoke on the new security equipment, said it would complement the tracking device put into operation a few months ago by the police as well as the over 2000 units of Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) that have been installed in Abuja and Lagos as well as the Aerial Unmanned Vehicles (AUVs), which are also expected to be deployed in the nation’s borders.

The source, who pleaded not to be named, “because the matter is sensitive”, said the security agencies under the office of the NSA have intensified physical security checks across the FCT and major cities as well as deployment of intelligence personnel in busy hotels and offices across the country.”

The source said: “We are doing our best to ensure that we protect the lives and property of the citizenry and foreigners. Once the entire new security apparatus is put into use, you can be sure that these criminals causing so much trouble for the people will be taken care of adequately.”

Assuring Nigerians that the government is on top of the security situation, the source also said “the fight on terrorism should be a collective one because the man or woman who has turned himself or herself into a weapon of destruction is difficult to monitor”.

“So, every Nigerian should consider this fight his or her own. It must not be left for the government to fight alone.”

why not 50billion naira? You can spend the whole budget and you cannot get rid of BH bastartds! As long as we cannot control our boarder 10billion naira will never solve the BH saga. Put that 10billion to proper use with immigration officers that want to do right and real census. Rome has been conducting census even from the bible days but till date we don't take it serious in Nigeria....mcheeew!

Hmmm, installing some power security what?? Without steady power supply how could that be effective...it amazes me that sum r still eating whatever this government dishes out. The clues government always find a clue on how to keep robbing and raping the masses....simple thing s like water, power , health, good roads, education and security, they can't fix but they would always try to deal with more complex things that would allow them to gulp money....Jonathan stop building sky scrappers on a tooth pick.

Goodluck Jonathan is not the problem. People need to stop blaming Goodluck Jonathan. Hausa / Fulani people are not giving him a chance or allowing him to govern the country in peace. They want to make it seem like only a northerner can govern the country. The chaos and crisis are being orchestrated against Goodluck Jonathan's led administration by Hausa / Fulani people. Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan is under enormous, orchestrated and unprecedented opposition and pressure at the hands of northern leaders, including those in the military and intelligence service. They want to use Boko Haram to kill Goodluck Jonathan and blame his death on terrorists. The only reason they haven't done so is the opposition they will face from US government, UK government and EU leaders. The leadership of Nigeria is not the birthright of Hausa / Fulani prople. Through the use of killings and terror campaigns by Hausa / Fulani backed Boko Haram, northern nigerian want to make it seem like Goodluck Jonathan is a lame duck president. Hausa / Fulani people are the cause of over 95% of Nigeria's past and current problems. We need to teach these bastards and their unborn children a big lesson. One tribe or any tribe must not be allowed to dominate. It is wrong. The terrorism in Nigeria is due to the desire of Hausa / Fulani people to impose their authority and filthy religion on the rest of us and gain advantage of the presidency of federal republic of Nigeria at the expense of the rest of use. People need to wise up. We need to see this Boko Haram for what it is. Hausa / Fulani people by proxy have lunched a war on Nigeria and they must be crushed. Boko Haram is authorised and acting on behalf of the Governors, Emirs and northern leaders. Basically what this Hausa / Fulani people are telling is each time their own person is not the Head of State or President of Nigeria, they will use Boko Haram, their military wing ( masquerading as an Islamist terror organisation ) to bomb and slaughter us till we capitulate. The time is right for Nigeria to go to war against Hausa / Fulani people and their interest in and outside Nigeria. We cannot sit back while our people are being slaughtered. We cannot sit back while these rotten and greedy pigs oppress us in our own country and destabilise Nigeria. We need to give them and their children a taste of their own evil medicine and send all of them to the Sahara desert where they and their worthless ancestors and their unborn children belong.

Realistically, there is not a lot that can be done to eliminate these evil group. America has spent BILLIONS OF US DOLLARS and there are still cells all over the world of muslim murderes. This is a step by naija govt to try and curb it a little bit and it is a bold step. I wish them luck. It is really difficult to fight someone who is willing to kill and die for the hogwash they believe in. Religion of peace wrecking havoc all over planet earth. Just terrible

Hausa better than I speak English. So, before anybody castigates me as a basher of the North or of Muslims, they better take cognizance of the fact that I had firsthand experience. Notice

"...... how come no Hausa/Fulani of significant profile, such as the Sardauna of Sokoto, the Emir of Zaria, the Emir of Gwandu, the Emir of Maiduguri, Ibrahim Babangida, Mohammadu Buhari, Abubakar Atiku, Abubakar Umar, etc...have openly denounce the Boko Haram? Their quiet acquiescence should not be interpreted as cowardly or coincidental. It is calculated."

".....It is clear that since Nigeria's amalgamation, the Hausa/Fulani Muslims of the North thought of themselves as superior beings, compared to the Christians of the South, and particularly the largely-Christian Igbo people. In fact, if you have the trust and confidence of a Northerner, you will frequently hear him derisively refer to Igbo people as "impure" and "lower-than-dogs". This may sound like I am fanning the embers of ethnic crisis here. But I am stating the facts. I know that Igbo people in power today are aware of this, and so are their Yoruba and, of course, their Hausa counterparts. They are just too timid to say it in the open. "

".....The hatred of Igbo people and Christians by the Hausa/Fulani people remains palpable. Northern Muslims just manage to tolerate them. If they thought they could harm a Christian or an Easterner and get away with it, they would do it in a jiffy, without compunction and without remorse. And they would do it in the name of Allah."
