Over 150 celebrities and captains of industry gathered today (10.11.11) to share their appreciation of Scotch Whisky at the exclusive annual Johnnie Walker® society event held at Ember Creek, Lagos.  Guests included  Olisa  Adibua, Osaze Ebeku, Oona Priddy, Samson Siasia, Uche Jumbo...

The event was hosted by leading authority on Scotch Whisky and the Johnnie Walker® Global Brand Ambassador, Thomas Jones, who staged an exclusive Whisky Master Class for his fellow Scotch Whisky connoisseurs.

Tom Jones travelled for the first time to Nigeria to host the evening and share his stories, experiences and intimate knowledge of Scotch whisky.  During the evening, Tom inspired guests with the amazing history and heritage of the Johnnie Walker® brand and shared with them his tips on how to enjoy their whisky to the full in a mentored tasting.  He explained how each of the Johnnie Walker® blends is crafted and matured to deliver the unique taste, characteristics and flavours and how only whisky that is produced in Scotland and within the stringent quality regulations of the Scotch Whisky board, can truly be called Scotch.

Speaking at the event, Tom said, “This is my first visit to Nigeria and I am delighted to have met so many enthusiastic whisky connoisseurs here this evening.  One of the best parts of my job is having the opportunity to travel and meet whisky lovers around the world and share my knowledge and stories with them.  Nigerian whisky lovers certainly do know all about the delights and craftsmanship of Scotch Whisky and it has been a pleasure for me to be here and to share our experiences tonight.”

At the event, guests also learnt more about the Johnnie Walker® Walk With Giants Campaign.  Johnnie Walker®, the World’s number one selling blended whisky brand, stands for progress, for having a dream and for having the courage to pursue it relentlessly.  Walk with Giants celebrates great individuals who achieve their goals and seeks to recognise those who, despite the odds, ‘Keep Walking’ despite any setbacks that may be encountered along the way.

Johnnie Walker® Giants include Formula 1 hotshot Lewis Hamilton and Sir Richard Branson, arguably the world’s most famous entrepreneur whose story is one of a pioneering businessman whose life and ideas have never been bound by the confines of an office. He launched his first business from a payphone and has risen to become a global icon epitomising personal progress, having always challenged conventions to achieve the extraordinary. Today Branson continues to push the boundaries in all his business pursuits.

African Giants include Manu Dibango, who has released over 25 albums over the course of his musical career and in 2004 was appointed a UNESCO Artist For Peace and the incredible Ethiopian long distance runner, Haile Gebrselassie.
