Funmi Iyanda joined 32 other Africans to climb Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, as part of an advocacy effort for women’s right on March 5. The project was organized by the Africa UNiTE campaign group as part of a crusade to end violence against women and girls.

I am however disappointed at the cheap jab you took at the government. I am made to understand that this project was a fully funded one by the UN. If that be the case, a sponsorship by our government would have amounted to spending money on something that is already paid for which is called government waste which you, my dear sister has been very vocal against since the beginning of this year.
In any case, this is what I tell government critics, moderate your tone, stick to the point because at the end of the day you'll need government support and when you do, the people you had spent time mudslinging to build your brand as a government critic will not answer you.
Funmi, you spent an entire month going on TV, Twitter and Facebook to talk down, insult and abuse government and anyone in government in the name of fuel subsidy protest.
You have the right to say what you feel about government and its policies but you must also understand that consequences come with our actions. It's the denial of this fact of life that makes me wonder if indeed the government critics in Nigeria think at all.

Only Nigerian government critics think they can have it both ways - insult their President, curse him out and his generation to come and then turn around and be awarded national honours the next week. Ok. someone please explain how climbing kilimanjaro would help in stopping the violence against girls and women? instead of wasting time and money climbing a mountain, these people should write to the lawmakers and march to aso rock to advocate their views and try to enact it into the constitution. the women and girls are there suffering, una dey climb mountain. my opinion.#just saying.
At the end of the day, the faith behind this adventure is all that matters; sort of a physical and mental preparation for their project.... Her fourth tweet(beginning with "why Kilimanjaro") pretty much explains your puzzle. Violence against women in Africa seems almost unstoppable. So, if to them, their adventure is a form of motivation/morale towards securing the rights of African women, then they need all of our supports, including the government's.
