Court finds Dangote culpable for accident that claimed over 30 lives

In August 2010, a truck belonging to Dangote Sugar Refineries, rammed into vehicles along the Lagos-Ibadan Express, resulting in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of over 30 people and destroyed several vehicles.

The families of the victims went to court to seek justice and compensation. And after over a year and a half, they finally got it yesterday as an Ikeja Magistrate court has asked Dangote Sugar Refinery to 'issue a public apology' and pay 'minimal compensation' to the accident victims and their families within the next three months.

I wonder they mean by minimal, Dangote truck drivers are reckless drivers, if dangote can not take of his flock then he should be made to pay for it, also another horror breed are Julius Berger drivers, you need to see them on lekki/ajah road by 5.30am and 6.45pm, those ones are even worse off, overspeeding, reckless driver and shunting(using the emergency lanes), they should be made to pay dearly too

I'm glad things like this are being taken into the Nigerian courts, money cant bring back the dead, but lets hope the families get their compensation.

Court should order dangote to pay the family without any further delay.

Please what is the meaning of "Minimal Compensation" in this issue?
As for the stupid judge that gave such lousy judgement...may the evil you wish others be you portion. People lost their lives & properties under circumstances that could be avoided and all you could do is to give the guilty side a tap on the wrist. The excesses of all these multinational companies should be curbed.

this is good cos it'll mean big companies will be forced to train their drivers adequately.
But what happens to d government and the bad roads, who'll punish them?

with dis stop verdict dt dis judge gave, its obvious dt he or she has been bribed to not only elongate d trial bt to give dt unreasonable verdict!!... #shikena

I don't know why he even needed the court to give the order...what ever happened to social responsibility, with all that money u'd think they could afford the decency to take a little responsibility for the accident...mhcew i tire oo

1 billion naira as compensation to each member of the deceased,I rest my case.

Am happy about the court verdict. But unfortunately I really don't see any good coming out of it especially for the victims. Dangote is a perpetual defaulter when it comes to disregarding court order. Only a few days ago a family property case involving him was reported on silverbird we his company violated a court order; so what are these victims talking about? Mehn I really pity them. They are just jonsing! Dangote like any other ruthless nigerian businessman all out to make profits would less.......his trailers are all over former Ogere toll gate constituting a major traffic nuisance and endangering the lives of motorist plying that Lagos - Ibadan Routes Daily.
If I was the governor of Ogun state I would create a trailer car park for theses trucks every 10-15 Kilometers. Along that route with necessary towing vehicles. At least this will generate income and employment opportunities in the state. After which any truck seen deliberately parking on the side of the express will be burnt whether its Dangote's or any other companies......Shikena!

Still dont understand why this even had to go to court????

Hellooooooo arent Dangote trucks insured? The insurance company should have handled this once the police report deemed the dangote driver as the one responsible for the accident.

I hope they r not being used 4 rituals. Only God knows sha, woot a pity

Justice served

Wonder if iluninati Forbes would take note of this..

I find it very wicked and heartless that the families had to go to court in the 1st place. Did dangote plan to just leave them like that? I wonder how much he(dangote) paid the judge to give such a ridiculous verdict.

To the comment about insurance, lol. You know nothing cos motor insurance will only pay 1m max for third party liabilities. I'm sure 30 lives are worth much more!

Kelvin2ugly-its really sad how 9ja judicial system works.Since 2010 God,what's so hard to judge in this case?they are still giving him 3months to pay.Dangote would have done out of court settlement.except their families are acting greedy which I know they will be.He's a billionaire in Dollars,if he decides to share 10million for each family, its won't shake him.His money cannot bring them back, but can change the lifes of their family members

It's unfortunate that accidents like that do happen from time to time but you guys should please be a bit kind to Dangote! The man is trying, if we have just 1 thousand Dangotes doing business in Nigeria unemployment ll be wiped out.

They (Dangote and Julius Berger) are all ritualists in hiding with the blood of the innocent they take with their reckless driving.
