While this is true for women as well, it is particularly true for men. Men lose a lot of physical and intellectual energy and strength in the course of engaging in the sexual act. Even in marriage, where sex is “an entitlement”, it should be indulged in moderation. In this regard, we can learn from nature. Even animals know that there is a time to have sex and a time to abstain.
In Nigeria and Africa as a whole, we have a lot of progress to make in terms of science, research, etc. Sometimes I worry that we spend too much of our time, talents and energy (both physical and “seminal”) on making our “relationships” work and on indulging our passions. If only we would abstain a bit more and learn the (old school) art of self-control we would all make the world such a better place.
Thought I should add that many of the world’s greatest men were either temporarily or permanently celibate in the course of their lives. The ones that come to my mind right now are: Jesus, Ghandi, Mandela, Isaac Newton, Mozart to mention a few.
